Summary: He must be dying.
Notes: It’s been…a while.
The truth is, he’s dying. He has to be.
He’s dying in Kon’s arms, heart racing and breath fading and hell, he’s not sure how to take this. Kon’s trying—futilely—to keep him awake, to keep him from bleeding out in the building rubble where they’ve been grounded. Tim guess it’s the TTK that’s keeping him from losing too much blood all at once, and if it weren’t so hard to talk, he’d tell Kon what a good job he’s doing. As it stands, he can’t get his mouth open wide enough to say anything.
It’d probably be too dangerous to move him. Health-wise, that is—the city itself is safe now thanks to the combined efforts of the League and the Titans. Tim has to wonder at that moment where Bruce is, why it’s just him and Kon, unless the fact is that nobody else knows. Oh, God. Nobody else knows, and they’re trapped.
“Tim, if you fucking die on me, I’ll kill you.” He can hear Kon say it, he knows he can, but truth be told, he can’t tell if it’s in his head or not. He feels oddly calm for someone on death’s doorstep, and he thinks that it’s because Kon’s there with him. Something makes him really believe that, and he smiles at the thought. It hurts, but he smiles, and he’s certain that the drops of water on his face are from Kon as opposed to the sky opening up on them.
“It’s okay, I’m alright.” It comes out broken and quiet and Kon just holds him tighter because for a reassurance, it wasn’t reassuring at all. He’s dying, but at least his best friend is with him.
And then he wakes up, alive. He feels like he’s been through hell—because, in a way, he has—but he’s alive, he’s alive and in one piece and Kon’s bursting through the door to the hospital room because he heard the heart monitor’s beeps change, and once he realizes that Tim’s awake, Kon’s kissing him like there will never be a chance to do it again. It’s almost too much at the same time it’s not nearly enough, though, and he’s sore, he’s sore and he needs Kon to let go for about five seconds so that he can catch his breath.
“Yeah.” He smiles and his own voice catches him off guard. “I couldn’t have done it without you.” He pulls Kon back into a hug despite the complaints of his muscles. “Thank you for being there.”
Kon swallows hard and presses a kiss to the top of Tim’s head. “I love you. I don’t know what I’d have done if—”
“You don’t have to know,” Tim says softly. “I’m alive. And it’s thanks to you.” He lets go of Kon and stares at him. “Stay with me? Until everyone gets here?”
“God, like I’d let you out of my sight.”
